Physics Article Regarding Complex Systems Highlights WheresGeorge.com

We recently came across the article titled "Can the laws of physics untangle traffic jams, stock markets, and other complex systems?" which appeared on the phys.org website in March 2019.

Interestingly, the article leads off with a reference to WheresGeorge.com and notes that it offers insight into "complex systems."  Lindsey Valich of the University of Rochester defines a complex system as: "anything composed of many parts that interact in such a fashion that the overall behavior of the system is entirely dependent on the interaction and is something different from a sum of the parts."  Examples of complex systems referenced in the article include "financial markets, street networks, and even the human brain, made up of a system of neurons that work together to allow a person to think, make decisions, and perform day to day tasks."

The article continues, by discussing how physics, mathematics, and statistics and interdisciplinary partnerships can be used to untangle complex systems and networks, and foster improvements in the human experience.   (Here is a link to the full article.)
